Subbies "Refs R Us" project

The Rugby Club Foundation awarded a grant to NSW Suburban Rugby (affectionately known as Subbies) enabling the launch of the “Refs R Us” project which will dramatically increase the number and quality of referees and assistant referees available to rugby clubs. The Rugby Club Foundation would like to congratulate the first graduates of the project, and Subbies, on the success of the project thus far.

Subbies aim to achieve the goal of having qualified referees and assistant referees appointed to every club rugby match in Sydney. Further, with the recruitment numbers targeted, aim to "future proof" club match official numbers for many years to come. The “Refs R Us” project will, finally, fix a long standing club rugby problem and provide an ongoing solution to dwindling match official numbers.

The Rugby Club Foundation is proud to partner with Subbies, awarding this grant to assist with the significant costs in training and outfitting the planned number of referees (64) and assistant referees (150). The Board of The Rugby Club Foundation, on behalf of the members sincerely thanks all the volunteers who have undertaken the match official courses and looks forward to seeing the benefits flow on to grassroots rugby.
