A post from the Deputy Chair

Rugby is on the up. Grassroots is the engine. The next decade will be one to remember.

Today celebrates #ADayInUnion which reminds us, of all the great things that Rugby Union provides. Mateship, camaraderie, discipline, respect and team work, amongst many other wonderful attributes.

Pictured above are the 10/Bs in 1989 vs Barker on Price 5 at The King's School. This was my first year of rugby, I am still playing and about to start the next season of Subbies (promise I’ll be at training soon). I still haven’t moved from the front of the line out, but one day my talents as a fly half will be acknowledged - triple cuts will make a come back. The game has given me far more than I could ever have hoped for and I’m grateful.

Well done to the bloke wearing headgear in the line out, Greg Mumm, for starting this initiative.

Shout out to all my team mates over the years especially the 10/Bs - You guys were weapons and I loved watching you play.

These days, as Deputy Chair of The Rugby Club Foundation, we want to keep the grassroots strong, funded to develop, with as many people as possible involved. Please keep going forward, which is one of the great attributes of the Rugby community. Rugby is on the up. Grassroots is the engine. The next decade will be one to remember.

Thanks to all who play, coach, manage, drive kids, referee, support and appreciate this great game for what it is.
