2024 Sir Leslie Herron Rugby Scholarship Update

“citizenship, scholarship, and a contribution to Rugby”

The Foundation is delighted to provide an update on the 2024 Herron Scholarship recipients and wishes Coco and Matt continued success in furthering their Rugby aspirations while embracing the values of past scholarship recipients: citizenship, scholarship, and a contribution to Rugby.

Coco Marsters

In 2024 Coco played her first year of Senior Rugby for the Manly Mermaids while continuing to play for her junior club the Seaforth Raiders.

Despite injury disruptions, Coco was selected in the NSW Combined High School 7s team and the Australian Rugby Youth 7s program which competed in the 2024 Youth Global 7s in New Zealand. She also represented her Samoan heritage by playing in the NSW Pasifika Rugby Tournament.

In 2025 Coco aims to continuing playing 7s and XVs Rugby while balancing her Year 12 studies.

Matthew Edwards

In 2024, whilst completing his HSC, Mathew played both 7s and XVs at representative level, despite having to cover vast distances to do so.

Matthew played club Rugby for Singleton and was selected in the Hunter representative side for the NSW State Championships. He was then selected and captained the NSW Country team and played for the Pacific Nomads in Fiji and the Global Youth 7s in New Zealand.

In 2025 Matthew will join the Hunter Wildfires in the Shute Shield competition and begin his studies at Newcastle University.
